Sven Longshanks and Carolyn Yeager discuss the mistreatment of a 95 year old war veteran and the final letters of Josef and Magda Goebbels.
Helmut Oberlander is a Canadian citizen who was an interpreter for the Einsatzgruppen when he was a teenager in Ukraine. He claims he never saw any killings and was forced to serve, but has been found guilty by a Canadian court of war crimes and they want to strip his citizenship, leaving him stateless at the age of 95.
The excuse he uses that he was forced on pain of death to do the job is untrue, they were all volunteers and it would have been far too risky to have anyone there who was not completely dedicated to what they were doing. This is all too often the story with these war veterans, they think that by going along with the official story that millions were killed and gassed, the court will go lenient, but they never do.
It is a great shame that they do not show the fortitude of Josef and Magda Goebbels, who exhorted her one remaining son to always remain loyal to himself and to Germany, before doing what no mother should ever have to do in order to avoid her children suffering a fate worse than death.
