Berkeley city council have issued a list of non-specific words to replace commonly used words that specify gender.
A man-hole is to be a maintenance hole, a bonds-man is a bonds-person and social should be used instead of fraternity.
In order to be inclusive of the less than 1% that are transgender, the council are excluding the other 99% that do know what gender they are.
