Sven Longshanks and Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson discuss the increasing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the different British, Russian and Iranian response to it.
After Britain seized an Iranian tanker for breaking a law that Iran is not even signed up to, Iran has impounded a British tanker for breaking maritime law.
The first response from Britain to this was to call for an EU led Armada to protect ships in the area. This call was made by former Defence Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
Hunt has now been sacked by Boris and Britain has announced they will be sending their own Navy to do the job.
But there is already a country responsible for security within the Strait and that is Iran, who have pointed this out.
Russia has a plan for ‘collective security’, but a condition of this plan is that ‘non-regional states’ such as America give up all permanent deployment of military groupings in the area.
