The accused made it clear that all they did was defend their country against foreign aggression, yet they were charged with waging a war of aggression and crimes against peace.
The only alternative would have been to accept unconditional surrender, which they eventually had to do and even the man who surrendered the country, was sentenced to 10 years.
All of this under no authority whatsoever, since the German administration were the lawfully elected lawmakers of Germany.
