Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson exposes the pseudo-religious scam that is the modern interpretation of yoga and karma.
Yoga is a trendy pseudo-spiritual practice with roots going all the way back to the 20th century. Americans don't have the vocabulary or mindset to even begin to approach the thought of ancient Hinduism. Therefore, whatever is called “Yoga” today is a fraud. Some of the poses or sequences most common today are from the late 1920s. Sun salutations, one of the most venerated yoga sequences, were invented in the 1930s and have more in common with military calisthenics and gymnastics than with yoga.
Karma is a stupid idea. In an age of organized atheism, its as close to a religion as the American mass gets. Its cited on a daily basis. The basic assumption is that “bad things will [eventually] happen to bad people.” It implies an ordered universe without a creator; eternal law without an eternal lawmaker. It preaches relativism but refers to good and evil acts as rewarded or punished. Its a religion for atheists.
Neither Karma nor Yoga have any connection, in their present form, to ancient India. Its just another capitalist, postmodern commodity to be bought and sold.
