The Church of the Lampshade returns once again to make sense of the world around us and to deliver a Christian specific message that you won’t find anywhere else. We once lived in a society based on laws that for the most part made some sort of common sense. The average person could go through their day to day lives with a fair amount of confidence that they weren’t breaking the laws, because you simply did what made sense on a natural and moral level and that meant you more than likely weren’t breaking any laws. However now things are different. Not only are there multitudes of laws that often make little or no sense, we’ve moved a step further and are now constantly dictated to by ever-evolving rules. These aren’t laws, no legislation has been passed, instead these are rules and we are all told that we must follow these rules whether they make any sense or not, because to follow the rules makes you a morally superior person. However these rules are observably not for the good of the people, but instead are about demanding more and more control over your life.
In the Christian specific segment this week we will tackle the topic of hypocrisy. Jesus warned us to beware of the “leaven of the Pharisees which is hypocrisy”. As always, the words of Christ are true. However what you must remain aware of is the fact that the devil is a scripture quoter and one of his go-to tactics is to use scripture to trip you up. This is demonstrated when he attempted to use scripture to temp Jesus himself. Often times, the devil will attempt to get you to conflate being a sinner, with being a hypocrite. This is a trap that you must avoid, because if you wait to become a perfect person in order to do the things that God sets before you, then you will never do anything…which is exactly what Satan wants.
This week’s scripture references will be Luke 12:1-5 and Luke 13: 10-17.
