Grandpa Lampshade explains some of the dangers social media echo chambers are creating, before getting into this week’s sermon.
This podcast is listener supported and on a voluntary basis. There is no paywall and no annoying ads, so your support is very much appreciated. The information on how you can do that is found at the bottom of the page.
Echo chambers are being created for both sides of the political debate in the U.S. Anyone to the right of Stalin has been banned from so called “Main stream social media” which has left social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook becoming little more than echo chambers for commies. This is dangerous for both the Left and the Right, because it creates a false reality where one is led to believe there is more support for a particular view than is actually the case. If Trump wins the election it will be very difficult for those on the Left to accept, because every post they see reinforces their own world view. This false impression is exasperated further by the media’s fake polls and news stories that consist of copy/pasting the Twitter posts of commies and when reality crashes into this, people are going to have a very difficult time dealing with it.
While echo chambers are a situation created by external forces, another phenomena we observe are the boundaries we set for ourselves. Often these boundaries are created by an ideology. A good example of this would be the conservative who will defend the destruction of small town America by corporate mega stores in the name of “Muh free market” while on the other hand being against dealing drugs because “It’s bad for society as a whole”. These contradictions are inevitable due to the fact that time and again the ideological boundaries we set up for ourselves are built on lies. When you abandon these lies and instead seek only the truth, you become free range. To those confined to the ideological pens, this looks scary, but to follow the truth is to find true freedom.
In the Christian specific message the Reverend Lampshade will continue on the subject of boundaries and holding yourself back as it relates to Christian faith. Sadly believers often miss opportunities to do the work of the Lord because they have tied themselves down to the past or more specifically; to the sins of their past. This is a dangerous thing, as it amounts to denying the power of Christ. When you stop moving forward because of sin, you are essentially saying that your past sins have more power than Jesus and you are thus denying Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
Scripture references this week will be:
Genesis 19: 15-26
Luke 9: 57-62
It’s a jam packed hour plus this week (as usual) and you’re not going to want to miss a minute of it. This is a free range congregation, led by the truth. Don’t be afraid. Break down those self created barriers. Break out of your pen. Join the congregation at The Church of the Lampshade.
