Sven Longshanks and Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson look at the potential for a new nuclear arms race between Russia and the US.
The last remaining arms control treaty runs out in January and America is not listening to Putin who wants to extend it for a year with no pre-conditions.
Russia has even offered to include their new weapons in this, weapons created to counter what they see as a nuclear threat on their own doorstep.
If there is no new treaty, this could lead to a new arms race with the bulk of the weaponry being based in Europe.
