As well as building railways and pioneering steamships, Brunel also built the first proper hospital prefabricated and sent out to Florence Nightingale in the Crimea.
He even used his engineering skills to try and design a machine to shake a half-sovereign coin out of his mouth.
The last bridge of his design was finished after his death and all over the country he left his mark on such structures, many of which are still in use.
