Florence Scott portrays herself as an authority on Anglo-Saxon studies, yet really she is just trying to insert Black people into British history.
She doesn’t understand that the presence of an almost ‘absolutely pure African’ in Britain means they cannot have been descended from slaves hundreds of years earlier.
Since there were no others found either, it means they were here on their own and since the Welsh and the Saxons were both consecutively enslaved, there was no need to have Black slaves here in the first place.
They were likely curiosities of the Sarah Bartman type, if they were indeed sub-Saharan African.
