Roman Protasevich must have had a shock when he saw the plane he was on diverting its course to Belarus, where he is a wanted criminal for inciting riots.
The EU has responded with sanctions and a ban on Belarus using EU airspace, but the grounding of planes to look for criminals is a precedent that the west itself set.
Belarus capitalised on the Israeli conflict as well, by claiming it was Hamas who called in the bomb threat that was used as a pretext for for downing the plane.
