Sven Longshanks looks at the guidance for identifying hate speech and ways we can avoid that accusation.
When looking for hate speech the police are advised to look for hostility or prejudice against a minority.
Hostility is dictionary defined as being 'warlike, aggressive, adverse, contrary or unsympathetic'.
So long as we place what we say within a context that excludes those possibilities, we should stay within the law.
