Florian Geyer begins this week’s episode by drawing attention to a new European Nationalist magazine called The Spear. He is then joined by Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson for a discussion about the differences between the Orthodox worldview and the modern western way of looking at things.
Oswald Spengler asserted that the western or Faustian spirit is incompatible with the Orthodox or Magian one. This argument ignores several important facts, such as Orthodoxy being the original Christian faith of Europe. Essentially the argument boils down to an embrace of moral relativism and the rejection of a worldview based on unchanging and eternal truths and if Truth is eternal and always applicable, then it’s essence must be universal or catholic in the original sense of the word.
The Orthodox view of the West is of a theological cancer growing and metastasising into the weakened and incoherent plurality of beliefs that we have today, which was the result of it departing from the truth. This foundational truth was represented by the Apostolic gospel and the church and by splitting from that, the West threw the baby out with the bath water.
