Medically the civilisation was very advanced, knowing how to remove organs and build dental bridges, but they had not known much about the art of war.
Canaanite tribes swept in after first appearing to be peaceful and took over the delta area by the Mediterranean sea, leaving the Egyptians in the middle as vassals to them.
It was these Egyptians in the middle that the Biblical Joseph saved from famine and who he helped to win back their lands.
