China has told Defence Secretary Mattis that they will not be giving up one inch of territory when it comes to China’s sovereignty and the land passed down to them by their ancestors.
America’s actions in this area have been overshadowed recently by the announcement that there would be no more practice invasions of North Korea, but America’s presence elsewhere in the same sea is seen as direct antagonism by China, as they claim ownership over most of it.
China has been building a chain of artificial islands to help them stake their claim and recently they have been loading them up with military hardware, however there are competing claims from Vietnam, Taiwan and the Philippines. Duterte has even said that he will go to war if China starts mining the resources there.
What is America doing getting involved in all this, especially when it no longer has the military might to take on a country like China?
