Sven Longshanks looks at the verdicts of the National Action trial in this episode where only two people were found to be members of the non-existent Nationalist pressure group, Chris Lythgoe and Matthew Hankinson. Jack Renshaw who admitted plotting to kill an MP, was not found to be a member, thus destroying the narrative that the fictional organisation had planned this as a terrorist act.
Not one piece of evidence was entered to show that NA had actually continued, all propaganda, demonstrations, interviews and videos shown in court came from before the group were banned. This was clearly done in an attempt to prejudice the jury against the men in the dock and should have been dismissed as irrelevant, since none of it was illegal at the time it was made.
Dispatches have made a documentary about the trial where it is quite clear that the verdicts were not what the programme makers were expecting. The grass Robbie Mullins appears in it complete with flabby belly grown since leaving NA, which does imply that he was a paid spy from the beginning and keeping himself healthy at the gym was just a part of his cover.
What the outcome of this trial really tells us is that two people going to a pub and training at a gym, is apparently all that is needed to prove the existence of a Far Right terrorist network in modern day Britain. Former members of NA should bear that in mind if they enjoy either of those activities.
