Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson joinsSven Longshanks to look at the real reasons for the animosity between Israel and Iran, which like most things is down to money.
Iran has a very strong economy and it is constantly expanding, this is seen as a threat by Israel, the same as Iraq, Syria and Lebanon were.
The Golan Heights were taken by Israel after the six day war because the lake of Galillee is there and water resources are scarce in that area. The Israelis want that resource and Syria stands in the way of taking it. All the while Iran is in Syria backing up the military Israel stands no chance of actually taking it.
Iran was not building nuclear missiles, the only people that said they were are Mossad. However this was a convenient excuse for Trump to use for tearing up the Iran deal. The real reason for doing so is there was no mention of Iran changing it’s foreign policy, which has always been to help it’s Arab neighbours such as Syria, Lebanon and Palestine.
You would think that with Donald Trump’s overt support for Israel that the world’s press would be right behind him, but the divisions between the right wing and the left wing Jews can even be seen at this level. The Israeli government are very right wing and so is Donald Trump, while the mainstream press is extremely left wing. Perhaps if there was a left wing government in Israel matters might be different and they would support President Trump.
