As always the conversation covers spiritual warfare, but also today some traditional Christmas customs including Advent and Little Lent and what the true Christian meaning of them are.
This is the time of year when we remember our holy forefathers as the cycle of the seasons culminates in the winter solstice and 12 days of feasting commemorating the Logos of Creation being made flesh. This was in fulfillment of God’s covenant with Abraham and Christ’s birth was the inauguration of the kingdom of heaven on earth through the divinization of human affairs by the Almighty. The kingdom of heaven is not a place, but a state of mind that we seek to realise through asceticism and observance of our Lord’s commandments.
We also remember our own ancestors at this time of year and Paddy tells us some tales about how Maine was first settled, including border skirmishes with the British, suicide-jesuits on missions to convert the savages and battles with mercenary forces made up of Red Indians.
