As we go through our pre-sermon discussion this week, I was reflecting on this past July 4th celebration and all the ‘Murica! Muh freedoms! Liberty! Sing songs, do flyovers and have a parade! It all seems so much like folks gathered round a patient on life support, while they go on about how this person’s best days are still yet to come. It is all so much self deception. Well as you all know, here at the Church of the Lampshade, we don’t do self deception. Instead, we strive for the truth. Thus, we will be taking a long hard look at where we are really at as a nation (or at least, what remains of a nation) and where we are likely headed.
Our sermon this week centers around Mathew chapter 24 and Christ discussing the end of days. This topic fits in nicely with our pre-sermon discussion on our declining society and collapsing empire. Are we in the end of days? Hasn’t everyone always thought that they were in the end of days? If so, what makes now different than before? What did Christ say about these things and more importantly, what were his instructions about how we should handle them? We will answer all of these questions and more in this week’s sermon.
