Carolyn Yeager talks to Sven Longshanks about the failed assassination attempt against Hitler, as Merkel has been honouring the traitors for the 75th anniversary.
The traitors were not representative of Germany, Hitler was very accessible even in war time and the officers were all carrying a pistol, it would have been a simple matter for anyone to shoot him.
The would-be assassins were made up of disgruntled aristocrats, military and progressive church men, all of whom were more concerned about how Germany looked to the rest of the world than anything else.
Thankfully they failed, but it was a shock for Hitler who had 99% approval ratings and unfortunately it is these same people now running Germany and the rest of the western world.
